Clay County Schools is proud to recognize Abigail G., a sophomore at Clay County High School, for earning acceptance into the 2026 West Virginia Governor's School for the Arts (GSA), held on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Governor's School for the Arts is a highly selective summer program that provides talented high school students with the opportunity to develop their artistic abilities through intensive instruction and collaboration with peers and professional artists. Students may pursue studies in creative writing, dance, digital media, instrumental music, painting and drawing, theater, or vocal performance while becoming part of a vibrant community of young artists from across West Virginia.

Admission to the program is highly competitive and requires students to successfully complete a rigorous audition process. Abigail distinguished herself by auditioning in both instrumental music and vocal performance. Her exceptional talent earned her acceptance into both disciplines—an impressive accomplishment that required her to choose between the two areas of study.

Abigail elected to attend the instrumental music program, where she spent three weeks of her summer refining her skills as a musician and flutist alongside some of the state's most talented young performers.

Clay County Schools congratulates Abigail on this outstanding achievement. Her dedication, talent, and commitment to excellence are a source of pride for our entire school community, and we look forward to seeing all she accomplishes in the future.
