CCHS students participating in signing day

Clay County High School recently hosted a highly successful Signing Day and Career Fair, a WV GEAR UP-sponsored event that brought together students, families, staff, and community partners for a day focused on future opportunities and student achievement. The event featured a keynote address from Jason Luyster, GEAR UP Senior Director of Student Affairs, who shared valuable insights and encouragement with students as they prepare for life after graduation.

The day began with a meaningful Signing Day ceremony, where seniors were recognized for taking the next step in their journeys. Students proudly signed with their prospective colleges, military branches, and future employers, marking an important milestone in their post-secondary plans.

Following the ceremony, students participated in Career Day activities that connected them with real-world opportunities. In the weeks leading up to the event, students selected four presentations they were most interested in attending, allowing for a personalized and engaging experience. Throughout the morning, students rotated through these sessions, hearing from a wide range of vendors representing different career fields.

In addition to the presentations, the Commons area hosted numerous vendors who set up informational tables, giving students the opportunity to explore careers, ask questions, and make valuable connections. One especially meaningful highlight was the Air National Guard table, which was hosted by four members who are all graduates of Clay County High School. Their presence provided students with a powerful example of local success and service.

Vendors also encouraged student engagement by handing out tickets, which students could enter into raffles for prizes. A special thank you goes to World Vision for generously donating the raffle prizes that added excitement and incentive for student participation throughout the day.

The event also included a dedicated parent session designed to help families better understand post-secondary planning and how to support their students as they transition beyond high school.

Clay County Schools extends its sincere appreciation to all vendors, staff, and students who contributed to making the day such a success. Events like this highlight the power of community collaboration in preparing students for bright and successful futures.
