THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING STUDENTS

I want to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to the citizens of Clay County for your support in the recent levy election.  Saturday, February 24, 2007 was an important day for all children in Clay County. The passage of an excess levy assures that our children will have many of the same educational advantages that children enjoy in other counties.  The excess levy has proven to be a wise investment for the youth of Clay County.

The excess levy helps to assure that students have the best opportunities for success. Transportation for after school and summer school programs, educational field trips, academic competitions, technology equipment, supplementary educational materials, and numerous other enrichment activities are made possible by the levy.  In a county such as Clay, with very limited resources, the excess levy provides an excellent avenue for bringing in financial support from beyond our borders. For every dollar paid by “incounty” residents in excess levy taxes, about $4.00 are paid by large businesses and out-of-county property owners.
We will be working in the future to make sure levy funds are used properly and effectively to best serve our students. We will continue seek other sources of funding to supplement and enhance programs for students. Although student performance on the 2006 statewide tests in Reading, Writing, and Math were perhaps our best ever, we will be working hard to make additional gains.  If you have suggestions and/or concerns that you wish to see addressed, please contact me or a member of my administrative staff.  I believe parents and community members have the right and duty to speak up in support of our children. Educators  have the duty and responsibility to listen respond accordingly.
